From Both Sides Of The Couch
I am Dr. Laurie Bruce, a clinical psychologist and mindfulness coach. For the last 25 years, I have had the privilege of providing psychotherapy, consultation and supervision to thousands of clients and students. One of my greatest joys is providing psychological and emotional support to other helpers: therapists, physicians, teachers, moms and anyone who finds themselves in the position of caring for others. If you are a health care professional or caregiver, you know how demanding our jobs can be. We carry the weight of all of our clients’ pain, day in and day out. It is essential that caregivers take the time and effort to engage in self-care. Without the proper self-care tools, the chronic exposure to human suffering can be traumatic, impacting us personally and professionally. My greatest form of self-care is to engage in my own personal therapy. I have had the privilege of working with some gifted therapists over the years. My investment in my own therapy has been the single most important gift I have given myself and it helps me to be the best therapist, mother and friend that I can be. This podcast is for you if you are a health care professional or therapist or anyone who gives so much to others that you have exhausted yourself. I am here to share wisdom that I have learned over the last two and a half decades from my clients, my supervisors and my own therapists. Join me for discussions on mindfulness, resilience, authenticity, radical acceptance, vulnerability, boundaries and so much more. Visit me at www.drlauriebruce.com

Episode 1: What is "Inner Healing Intelligence?"
In this episode, Dr. Little defines Inner Healing Intelligence as “The wisdom that is within each of us that is always guiding us towards health and growth.” Dr. Little discusses how her training as a clinical psychologist for nearly 25 years, with a specialty in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy helped to inform her understanding of this inner wisdom.
Dr. Little reviews three key reasons why individuals often have difficulty listening to and trusting their Inner Healing Intelligence including: a history of being invalidated, a history of engaging in significant self-sabotaging behaviors and a fear of what might happen when we are silent and go within.
Dr. Little also discusses the topics of stigma in mental illness and psychedelics and encourages listeners to stay open minded if these topics are new or uncomfortable.
